(Adnkronos) – The government has helped repatriate more than 25,000 Italian citizens and made assisting 90,000 in the Gulf region including 14,000 tourists “a top priority” since the United States-Israel war against Iran began 10 weeks ago, foreign minister Antonio Tajani said on Wednesday.

“Since the start of the war the top priority has been to assist 90,000 Italians in the Gulf region, including 14,000 tourists,” Tajani told the Plenary Assembly of the General Council of Italians Abroad at the foreign ministry in Rome.

“Within a few hours, the Gulf task force was activated,” Tajani went on.

“Through a massive political and diplomatic effort, we have assisted over 25,000 compatriots in returning to Italy,” he said.
