(Adnkronos) – The first analyses on board the cruise ship anchored in Bordeaux have excluded the presence of norovirus, a category of infectious agents that cause gastroenteritis in humans, but supplementary analyses, whose results are expected today, are underway at the infectious diseases department of Bordeaux hospital. This was reported by a health source cited by Le Figaro, according to which, in the face of rumors evoking the presence of hantavirus and to “avoid any psychosis”, the authorities explained the quarantine of the 1,700 people on board – after the death of a 90-year-old British passenger, who died of cardiac arrest – as a precautionary measure “in light of the international context”.
A similar situation was reported last week on a cruise ship sailing in the Caribbean, the Caribbean Princess, with 145 passengers and 15 crew members who experienced diarrhea or vomiting, according to the American Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
In addition to the possible presence of norovirus on the cruise ship “Ambition”, authorities do not rule out the hypothesis of food poisoning but exclude any connection with hantavirus, which caused the recent death of three passengers on board the cruise ship MV Hondius.
