(Adnkronos) – British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is ”weighing options” ahead of this morning’s important government meeting following growing calls, from 73 Labour MPs and some within the executive, for him to step down. Among these calls, that of Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood stands out, being among those who advised Starmer to announce a timeline for his resignation. As Sky News reports, the number of those in the Starmer government telling the Prime Minister that ”the game is over” is growing.
Not everyone, however, thinks this way. Other ministers, such as Housing Secretary Steve Reed and Work and Pensions Secretary Pat McFadden, believe the Prime Minister should continue to fight. According to Sky News, Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper and Defence Secretary John Healey went to 10 Downing Street to speak with the Prime Minister last night. It appears Cooper did not pressure Starmer to resign. Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy and Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasury Jonathan Reynolds also remained by Starmer’s side.
