Japan PM Meets U.S Treasury Sec. Ahead of Trump China Trip

Tokyo, May 12 (Jiji Press)–Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi met with U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on Tuesday to discuss their countries’ relations and strategic investments, as well as critical minerals and U.S. President Donald Trump’s upcoming visit to China. In the meeting at the prime minister’s office in Tokyo, Bessent emphasized the importance of ties between Tokyo and Washington when speaking about Trump’s trip to China. He said that the U.S. Treasury Department is working closely with the Japanese Finance Ministry and that the two bodies have a very good relationship. Bessent later told reporters at the prime minister’s office that excessive exchange rate fluctuations are undesirable.
