(Adnkronos) – Italy’s foreign minister Antonio Tajani will on Wednesday give an opening address at a signing ceremony at the foreign ministry for a series of Roots Tourism iniatives, according to a ministry statement.
Speeches are also set to be made by cabinet advisor for local authorities and European programming, academic Carmine De Angelis, and monitoring and evaluation committee chair, Raffaele Squitieri.
Representatives from the four bodies implementing the schemes – the Province of Avellino, the Municipality of Fiumicino, the Ausoni and Lake Fondi Park Authority, and Sport e Salute – will sign the agreements, the statement said.
There are 80 million potential ‘roots tourists’ worldwide whom the government wants to draw to Italy to reconnect with their heritage and family history, on travels in which they typically explore the small and often still remote villages their ancestors came from.
