Russia: war veterans in schools and the country’s centrism, new history education model launched

11 Maggio 2026

(Adnkronos) – Moscow has approved the new history education model to be implemented over the next five years, based on what Vladimir Putin requested in two decrees in 2022 and 2024. War veterans will be called into schools to share their frontline experiences, and teaching will revolve around the “principle of Russia’s centrism,” where the country will be presented as a “civilizational state with unique historical experience, contribution to world culture, and among the leaders of global progress.” An integrated organic system will be created involving different school grades, supplementary programs (partially organized by veterans), museums, libraries, historical parks, civic organizations, volunteer movements, and digital resources for education, as explained by Minister Sergei Kravtsov, presenting the project titled “Concept for History Education in School Structures.” A first draft had been approved by the ministry council on April 15.

The model aims to “raise adolescents’ awareness of the memory of the victims of the genocide of Soviets by the Nazis and of the heroes of the Fatherland, including participants in the special military operation.” The objective of the new model is to strengthen the cohesion of Russian society, preserve “traditional Russian spiritual, moral, and historical-cultural values” to form a “patriotically oriented” generation. That is to say, to proceed with the transformation of the state structure into totalitarianism.
