(Adnkronos) – A French citizen tested positive for Hantavirus after being evacuated from the MV Hondius. This is the first confirmed case of Hantavirus in France, as confirmed by Health Minister Stéphanie Rist in an interview with France Inter. ”Her condition worsened overnight – said the minister – PCR tests came back positive” and the woman is hospitalized in “a specialized hospital for infectious diseases”.
Rist then reported 22 “more or less close” contact cases in France. Firstly, “there was a flight on April 25” between Saint Helena and Johannesburg “aboard which eight French citizens and the patient who later died were present,” the minister explained. “These eight French citizens have been in isolation for almost a week,” she added.
On a second flight between Johannesburg and Amsterdam, “14 French citizens were identified” who “were informed to remain in self-isolation and we are inviting them to contact us. We must strengthen isolation measures,” she explained.
