(Adnkronos) – The Virginia Supreme Court today rejected the new electoral map that would have given Democrats an advantage in four House districts, thus inflicting a very tough defeat on the party ahead of next November’s midterm elections.
The Virginia Supreme Court, in fact, upheld the appeal against the referendum with which the electoral map was confirmed last month, stating in its ruling that the state’s Democratic leadership presented the referendum question to voters “in an unusual way” that violates state regulations on the matter.
The Court’s decision therefore gives Republicans a clear and important advantage in the gerrymandering battle, as the mechanism of redrawing electoral maps to benefit one of the two parties is called in US politics, the outcome of which could be crucial for winning the House majority in November.
