(Adnkronos) – Italy’s foreign minister Antonio Tajani held “positive” talks with United States secretary of state Marco Rubio in Rome on Friday that underscored the importance of unity among Western countries and transatlantic relations and looked at Venezuela, Cuba, Africa, the Mediterranean and critical raw materials, the minister told reporters.
“The unity of the West and transatlantic ties are are crucial for us,” Tajani stated.
“I am convinced that Europe needs America, but the US also needs Europe and Italy,” Tajani said.
Rubio is on a two-day visit to Italy through Friday aimed at repairing Washington’s relations with Rome and the Vatican, which have been strained by president Donald Trump’s six-week-old war on Iran and his recent verbal attacks against premier Giorgia Meloni and Pope Leo made by Trump on his Truth Social platform.
