(Adnkronos) – British Prime Minister Keir Starmer says he takes “responsibility” for the electoral results of the party he leads, Labour, in England. “They are very bitter, and there’s no way to sugarcoat it,” he declares, speaking to the press, according to the BBC. His party has “lost brilliant Labour representatives across the country… this hurts, and it should hurt, and I take responsibility,” he continues, adding that “days like these do not weaken my determination to deliver the change I promised.” The counting is currently underway only in some parts of England: other areas will start later in the morning, as will the counts for the national elections in Scotland and Wales.
“When voters send a message like this, we must reflect and we must respond,” Starmer states, according to the British broadcaster. The “vast majority of people” understand the “enormous challenges” the country faces, including “a series of economic shocks” and a “difficult international situation,” the Prime Minister emphasizes, adding that voters are still eager to see the change promised by Labour: “They know that the status quo is letting them down and they are frustrated, they don’t perceive changes.”
