Nintendo to Raise Switch 2 Price by 10,000 Yen

8 Maggio 2026

Kyoto, May 8 (Jiji Press)–Nintendo Co. said Friday that it will raise the suggested retail price of its Nintendo Switch 2 video game console in Japan by 10,000 yen to 59,980 yen on May 25. The Japanese game giant cited soaring semiconductor memory prices as the reason for the markup. It will increase Switch 2 prices in the United States, Canada and Europe in September. Global sales of the Switch 2, released last June, totaled 19.86 million units in fiscal 2025, which ended this March. The company expects sales in fiscal 2026 to decline 16.9 pct year on year to 16.5 million units. “It would be difficult to maintain business viability if we bear the increased costs over a long period,” Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa said about the price hike in an online press conference. He added that the company will likely be able to generate the same level of profitability from the Switch 2 as the previous fiscal year despite the expected decrease in sales by volume. The price of the Nintendo Switch, the predecessor model, will also increase by around 10,000 yen. Nintendo said the same day that it expects its fiscal 2026 group sales to drop by 11.4 pct from the previous year to 2.05 trillion yen and net profit by 26.9 pct to 310 billion yen. For fiscal 2025, the company reported record consolidated sales of 2,313 billion yen, up 98.6 pct, on the back of robust Switch 2 sales. Annual sales topped 2 trillion yen for the first time ever. The company’s group net profit climbed 52.1 pct to 424 billion yen. END [Copyright The Jiji Press, Ltd.]
