(Adnkronos) – Donald Trump gets his revenge in Indiana, where in the primaries at least five of the seven state senators who had dared last December to vote against the new electoral map loudly requested by the president lost their seats. Only one of the rebel group was declared the winner of yesterday’s primaries, while another is still engaged in a last-minute vote count with one of the challengers who had obtained Trump’s blessing and substantial funding, over 13 million dollars, from Trumpian Super PACs.
The financial commitment, absolutely unusual for local elections, confirms how important it was for Trump to demonstrate that, despite his record-high unpopularity due to the economic consequences of the war in Iran, he continues to have a firm grip on the Republican electoral base, so much so that he can derail the political careers of veterans of the Indiana Legislative Assembly.
After Indiana, Trump’s “revenge tour” will continue in Louisiana and Kentucky, where the president supports the challengers of two of his enemies in Congress, Senator Bill Cassidy and Representative Thomas Massie. On May 16, voting takes place in Louisiana, with Trump loyalist Julia Letlow seeking to end the career of Cassidy, hated by MAGA for having voted for Trump’s impeachment for the assault on Congress in 2021. On May 19, it will be Kentucky’s turn, with Trumpian Super PACs having already spent over 10 million in support of the former Navy Seal who is running against Massie, a real thorn in Trump’s side in Congress, who has for months launched ruthless attacks against the representative, but polls still show him ahead of challenger Ed Gallerein.
