(Adnkronos) – Italy’s foreign minister Antonio Tajani, will hold a bilateral meeting with United States secretary of state Marco Rubio at the foreign ministry in Rome on Friday, the foreign ministry said in statement.
Accredited press will be able to film the officials’ arrival at the foreign ministry while the bilateral talks will take place behind closed doors, the statement said.
The US state department announced earlier this week that Rubio would be in Rome on Thursday and Friday and the Vatican said he would meet with Pope Leo on Thursday.
“Secretary Rubio (a Catholic) will meet with Holy See leadership to discuss the situation in the Middle East and mutual interests in the Western Hemisphere,” the state department wrote on Monday.
“Meetings with Italian counterparts will be focused on shared security interests and strategic alignment,” the statement said.
