Hickey appointed new ambassador to Italy, San Marino

(Adnkronos) – Career diplomat Stephen Hickey has been appointed the United Kingdom’s new envoy to Italy and San Marino and will take up his post in June, the embassy said in a statement on Thursday. 

Hickey is a former UK ambassador to Iraq and has had postings to the United States, Egypt, South Africa, Libya, Syria, Cyprus, the United nations in Geneva and the European Union in Brussels, according to the statement.  

Hickey succeeds Edward Llewellyn, who has been UK ambassdor to Italy and San Marino since 2022.
