(Adnkronos) – Jihadist militias close to al Qaeda’s Jnim attacked the town of Bagaré, in northern Burkina Faso, less than a week after the large-scale offensive carried out in neighboring Mali alongside the Tuareg Liberation Front. At least 11 people were killed in yesterday’s attack by heavily armed militias on motorcycles. Residents of nearby villages had taken refuge in Bagaré, where in the days leading up to the attack, Jnim militants had forced civilians to leave their homes. As in Mali in 2021, a military junta, led by Ibrahim Traoré, also took power in Burkina Faso in 2022, with the aim of defeating the Islamists. Jnim announced that it had taken control of a military outpost.
