(Adnkronos) – Iran has carried out at least 21 executions and arrested more than 4,000 people since the start of the war in the Middle East. This was announced by the UN, according to which the regime’s repressive crackdown has intensified after the escalation following attacks by the United States and Israel at the end of February.

Since the beginning of the conflict, “at least nine people have been executed in connection with protests last January, 10 for alleged membership in opposition groups, and two on espionage charges,” the UN Human Rights Office reported in a statement. “Since February 28, it is estimated that more than 4,000 individuals have been arrested on national security-related charges in Iran,” the UN added, highlighting the sharp increase in repressive measures in the Islamic Republic.
