(Adnkronos) – For the first time since the start of the crisis in the Middle East, a supertanker linked to Japan has crossed the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important energy hubs. The vessel, identified as the Idemitsu Maru, resumed navigation late last night after being stationary for over a week northwest of Abu Dhabi.
According to ship tracking data, the supertanker then headed towards the strait, briefly altering its course near the Iranian islands of Qeshm and Larak before continuing. On board, it is carrying approximately two million barrels of crude oil, loaded in March at Saudi Arabia’s Juaymah terminal. The vessel, flying the Panamanian flag and managed by a Japanese company linked to the Idemitsu Kosan refining group, completed its passage through the maritime corridor in the past few hours.
