Moscow, 1 dead in Kyiv drone attack near Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant

27 Aprile 2026

(Adnkronos) – A Ukrainian Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant employee was killed by a Kyiv drone. This was reported by the Russian administration of the site. The Zaporizhzhia plant, the largest in Europe, has been occupied by the Russians since March 2022. It is located on the southern bank of the Dnipro. “A driver was killed by a drone of the Ukrainian armed forces in the transport workshop of the nuclear power plant,” reads a statement from Russian officials, who believe that “any attack on the nuclear power plant constitutes a threat not only to people, but also to national security.” The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has repeatedly called on Moscow and Kyiv for restraint, fearing that “reckless” military action could trigger a “serious nuclear accident.”

Since the start of Russia’s full-scale offensive against Ukraine in February 2022, Moscow and Kyiv have repeatedly accused each other of risking a nuclear catastrophe by attacking the site. Yesterday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Russia of “nuclear terrorism” on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Chernobyl incident, emphasizing that Russian drones regularly flew over the site and that one of them had hit its protective dome last year.
