27 Aprile 2026

Tokyo, April 27 (Jiji Press)–Tokyo’s Metropolitan Police Department on Monday arrested a Vietnamese man for allegedly causing a hit-and-run accident in the Japanese capital in January, investigative sources told Jiji Press. The suspect, a 32-year-old demolition worker living in the city of Kasukabe, Saitama Prefecture, north of Tokyo, was caught for allegedly violating the road traffic law. Around 6:10 p.m. Jan. 20, his car allegedly rear-ended another vehicle while driving on a street in Tokyo’s Suginami Ward, slightly injuring a man in his 50s inside the vehicle, and the suspect is believed to have left the scene after abandoning his car. The accident occurred about five minutes after the suspect’s car, whose license plate lamp was not functioning, was spotted by a police car while traveling on a street in neighboring Nakano Ward, according to the sources. The police car ordered the suspect to pull over. But he ignored the order and sped away, prompting a pursuit that was later called off due to safety concerns. The MPD later identified the suspect through security camera footage and other methods. The police will investigate the reason why he fled. END [Copyright The Jiji Press, Ltd.]
