Sydney, April 27 (Jiji Press)–Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong said Monday that she will visit Japan, China and South Korea this week to seek cooperation for stable fuel procurement amid supply disruptions caused by the Middle East conflict. While exporting natural gas, Australia relies on Asian countries, including the three nations, for petroleum fuel imports. During her stay in Tokyo, Wong is expected to meet with Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi and other officials. Ahead of Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s visit to Australia in early May, the two sides will coordinate views on bilateral security cooperation and responses to the Middle East tensions. “Australia and Japan are special strategic partners and close friends,” Wong said in a statement. Both countries support “a free and open Indo-Pacific that is inclusive and resilient,” she added. END [Copyright The Jiji Press, Ltd.]
