(Adnkronos) – The European Union’s Christian roots and Christian values are crucial to making the bloc ever stronger and decisive as it moves forward, Italy’s foreign minister Antonio Tajani underlined on Friday in a post on X.
“In #Rome with @ManfredWeber, @DolorsMM, , and the friends from @EPP,” Tajani posted, referring to the leader of the Christian Democratic centre-right European People’s Party leader, its secretary-general Dolors Montserrat and other party members.
“We discussed the values that form the foundation of our European civilization,” Tajani continued.
“In my speech, I dwelt on the importance of roots and Christian values, such as family, freedom, and solidarity. Today, these values are fundamental to strengthening our Europe ever more and moving forward with conviction and determination,” he wrote.
Tajani’s conservative Forza Italia party is a longstanding EPP member. Together with Weber and European Parliament president Roberta Metsola, Tajani on Friday re-launched the 50-year-old EPP, which has been largest party in the European Parliament since 1999 and in the European Council since 2002, as the number of centre-right coalition governments grow in Europe.
