Brazil, Lula undergoes surgery for skin lesion

24 Aprile 2026

(Adnkronos) – Brazilian President Luiz Inacio da Silva Lula, 80, has undergone surgery to remove a scalp lesion. “The procedure went without any complications,” reported the cardiologist at the São Paulo hospital, Roberto Kalil Filho, specifying that the operation was already scheduled. The lesion, visible for weeks, was diagnosed as basal cell carcinoma, a common form of skin cancer linked to sun exposure.

According to the medical team, healing will take about a month, and the president will have to limit public engagements in the coming days. Lula also received wrist treatment for tendinitis, while on the political front, he is preparing for a possible fourth term, with a campaign increasingly focused on reassuring about the leader’s physical efficiency.
