(Adnkronos) – Outrage and condemnation in Lebanon for the killing of journalist Amal Khalil in Tiri, southern Lebanon. The Lebanese head of state, Joseph Aoun, “expressed his sorrow” and, as reported by the presidency on X, accused Israel of “deliberately and systematically targeting journalists” to “hide the truth about its aggressions against Lebanon.” On the day a second round of talks between representatives of the Land of the Cedars and Israel is scheduled in Washington, amidst a fragile truce, the Lebanese president condemned what he calls “crimes against humanity” that should “urge the international community to intervene to put an end to them.”
In the past hours, Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam’s condemnation also arrived. “Targeting journalists, hindering the arrival of rescuers” constitute “war crimes,” he denounced via X, adding that these are no longer “isolated incidents, but a consolidated practice” that Beirut strongly condemns.
Khalil was a journalist for al-Akhbar, a newspaper close to Hezbollah. Her colleague Zeinab Faraj was injured.
