Nikkei Average Logs Record Intraday High in Morning

22 Aprile 2026

Tokyo, April 22 (Jiji Press)–Japan’s benchmark Nikkei 225 stock average notched a record intraday high on Wednesday morning thanks to rising technology issues. The index of 225 issues listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange’s Prime top-tier section finished the morning at 59,653.56, advancing 304.39 points, or 0.51 pct, from Tuesday’s closing, after hitting the record intraday high of 59,708.21. Funds flowed into some of the rapidly rising technology issues, such as those linked to semiconductors and artificial intelligence, after U.S. President Donald Trump announced an extension to his country’s ceasefire with Iran on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the broader TOPIX index ended the morning 22.75 points, or 0.60 pct, lower from the previous day’s close at 3,747.63. Selling pressure had the upper hand in the market as a whole amid a sense of overheating from its recent climb, with over 80 pct of Prime-section issues down from Tuesday at the midday break.
