(Adnkronos) – US authorities have asked their citizens still in Iran to leave the country after the partial reopening of airspace. “As of April 21, Iranian airspace has been partially reopened. US citizens must leave Iran now, follow local media for updates, and consult commercial airlines for further information on flights out of Iran,” the US State Department urged in a message.
Similarly, the department indicates the land route to exit Iran towards Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Turkmenistan, but asks to avoid travel to Afghanistan, Iraq, as well as the border area with Pakistan. According to the State Department, Tehran could “prevent the exit of US citizens” or “collect an ‘exit tax’ to leave the country,” therefore citizens with dual nationality are asked to depart using Iranian passports.
