(Adnkronos) – Japan has warned of the risk of earthquakes of magnitude 8.0 or higher, after a strong tremor hit the north of the country and triggered a tsunami alert. The Japan Meteorological Agency stated in a release that “the probability of another huge earthquake occurring is relatively higher than during normal periods”.

“Although it is not certain that a strong earthquake will actually occur, we ask you to take disaster preparedness measures,” a government representative told the press. The tremor that occurred earlier had a magnitude of 7.7.
