Nantan, Kyoto, April 18 (Jiji Press)–Police began examining the area around a public restroom in Nantan, Kyoto Prefecture, western Japan, on Saturday, after a missing 11-year-old boy was found dead in a forest area of the city earlier this month, Jiji Press learned. The Kyoto prefectural police believe that the public restroom is one of the locations where the father of the victim, Yuki Adachi, left the corpse. The 37-year-old father, who was arrested Thursday on suspicion of abandoning his son’s body, is believed to have relocated the body several times around the city since the suspect reported to police March 23 that the boy went missing that day. The restroom being inspected is located about 2 kilometers northwest of the victim’s home in Nantan, and is on the way from the home to Sonobe Elementary School, which he attended. Police investigators started examining the outside of the restroom at around 9 a.m. Saturday, setting up tarps and cordoning off the area. Also on Saturday, investigative sources revealed that the police were able to locate Adachi’s body by analyzing the father’s travel history stored on an app of his smartphone. Police studied the paths taken by the father, dating back to the day the son was reported missing and narrowed down the areas to conduct searches. Adachi’s body was discovered Monday evening in a forest area about 8 km northeast of his home. While an autopsy carried on the body has failed to determine the cause of the boy’s death, he is estimated to have died in late March. There were no visible injuries, such as stab wounds, on the body. In voluntary questioning prior to his arrest, the father, Yuki Adachi, told police that he killed his son by strangling him. The first names of the father and the son are spelled the same in English but are written and pronounced differently in Japanese. Police are searching areas in the city that the suspect is believed to have visited based on footage from the dashcam of his car, parts of which were found to have been deleted. The Kyoto police are investigating the possibility that the suspect knows about the circumstances regarding the victim’s school bag and sneakers, which were found at separate locations in the mountains in Nantan.
