(Adnkronos) – Italy’s foreign minister Antonio Tajani has sent a message of condolence on the passing of former Austria goalkeeper Alexander Manninger, who died at the age of 48 after his car was struck by a train near Salzburg on Tuesday.
“Great goalkeeper, great man both on and off the field. Rest in peace, Alexander Manninger. Condolences to the family and his loved ones,” Tajani wrote on X.
The horrific accident happened around 8.20 local time on Tuesday at a level crossing, according to police.
Manninger played for several top clubs in Europe including Arsenal and Juventus after beginning his career at Red Bull Salzburg. He won 33 caps for his country.
