Serbia, Vucic accepts Gozi’s challenge for a TV debate

15 Aprile 2026

(Adnkronos) – The President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić has accepted the ‘challenge’ launched by the Secretary General of the European Democratic Party Sandro Gozi, MEP for Renew Europe. “I invite Mr. Gozi to a debate on TV N1, as he expressed the desire to participate with me in a debate on TV N1,” Vučić told journalists after a meeting with the leaders of the Ministry of Defense and the Serbian Army in a barracks, reports Nova.rs.

Vučić, during an interview on TV N1, had dedicated several minutes to attacking Gozi and the European Democrats, targeting the party after a social media post asked “who will be the next autocrat to fall after Viktor Orbán,” also citing the Serbian president himself.

The post circulated widely in the country, which has long been experiencing protest demonstrations, surpassing one million views and fueling widespread online debate. Gozi had challenged him: “If he truly believes in democratic confrontation, Aleksandar Vučić should accept a public and live debate on freedom, democracy, and Europe, on an independent platform.” Now the president of Serbia, a country candidate for EU membership, has accepted the challenge.
