(Adnkronos) – “Since Sunday evening, in less than 24 hours, Doctors Without Borders (MSF) teams in Darfur have provided assistance to 56 injured people and recorded 2 deaths following 5 drone attacks carried out by the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF).” This was announced in a note by Muriel Boursier, emergency coordinator for Doctors Without Borders in Darfur. “In West Darfur, MSF teams at El Geneina University Hospital treated 25 people, including 4 children, injured in an attack near the city on Sunday night. On Monday morning, MSF also assisted 3 injured people following a drone attack that hit the crowded Tululu market along the Zalingei-Geneina road,” she adds.
“In Central Darfur, MSF teams treated 28 injured people at Zalingei University Hospital following 4 drone attacks in the region. 2 deaths were also reported,” Boursier continues. “As Sudan enters its fourth year of war, these attacks by the Sudanese Armed Forces demonstrate a total disregard for civilian lives. People are being killed on the streets and in markets. There is no safe place. Both parties to the conflict are attacking and killing civilians, as they have done for years. This must end immediately; this level of violence and inflicted suffering cannot continue,” she states.
“The humanitarian crisis in Sudan is one of the most severe in the world, and over the past three years, civilians have suffered extreme violence that has devastated every aspect of their lives. MSF is present in 9 states of Sudan, where it responds to emergencies by providing basic medical assistance. Once again, we call on the parties to the conflict in Sudan to protect civilians,” she concludes.
