(Adnkronos) – Change at the top of Greenland’s diplomacy, a Danish autonomous territory on which Washington has shown interest. The former prime minister, Mutu Egede, has been appointed as the island’s new foreign minister.
The decision follows Vivian Motzfeldt’s resignation, which occurred a month ago after her party left the governing coalition. The Greenlandic Parliament, the Inatsisartut, gave the green light to the new composition of the executive at the beginning of the spring session.
Leader of Inuit Ataqatigiit, Egede led the government from 2021 to 2025 and is known for his tough stance on Washington’s ambitions for the island, having repeatedly stated that Greenland “is not for sale” in response to statements by President Donald Trump. In the new executive, Egede has also taken on responsibility for mineral resources and industry.
