(Adnkronos) – North Korea announces, after yesterday’s launch of a ballistic missile towards the Sea of Japan, that new weapons are under test: an electromagnetic system, a carbon fiber projectile, a mobile short-range missile system, a tactical ballistic missile with a cluster warhead. According to the official agency Kcna, the Academy of Defense Sciences and the missile agency are working on these tests under the supervision of General Kim Jong-sik, a member of the Central Military Commission and first deputy director of the munitions industry department of the North Korean Workers’ Party. “The electromagnetic weapon and carbon fiber projectiles are special strategic weapons that can be combined with various military assets and used in different conditions,” Kim stated.
The combat situation test of the short-range missile on a mobile launcher for air defense was tested by the Air Defense Systems Research Office of the missile agency, and tests to evaluate the performance of the ballistic missile’s cluster warhead and its submunitions were evaluated by the Institute for Ballistic Missile Systems and the Missile Agency. The tests confirmed that the cluster warhead of the Hwasong-11A tactical ballistic missile is capable of destroying dense targets in an area of 6.5/7 hectares. A test was also carried out to verify the maximum load of the rocket engine. “These tests are of great importance for the development of North Korea’s armed forces and were carried out within the framework of the regular activities of the Administration and its research institutions.”
