DPFP Chief Seeks Talks on Economic Steps over Iran Crisis

7 Aprile 2026

Tokyo, April 6 (Jiji Press)–The chief of Japan’s opposition Democratic Party for the People has suggested that he will urge Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi to convene a meeting of party leaders to discuss economic measures that he believes should be formulated in response to the deteriorating situation in Iran. “Necessary policies must be implemented proactively,” DPFP leader Yuichiro Tamaki said at a press conference in Tokyo on Sunday. Expressing concerns over “stagflation,” a situation where inflation and economic deterioration occur simultaneously, Tamaki said the DPFP plans to compile a proposal on new economic measures and submit it to the prime minister.
