(Adnkronos) – The United States has revoked sanctions against Venezuelan interim president Delcy Rodríguez, according to the US Treasury Department website, in a further sign of rapprochement between Washington and Caracas, three months after the raid that led to the capture of Nicolas Maduro. Rodriguez, who was Maduro’s vice president until January, was among numerous individuals in the former leader’s so-called “inner circle” sanctioned by the Treasury in 2018, during the first term of US President Donald Trump.
“President Trump’s decision is a significant step in the right direction to normalize and strengthen relations between our countries – commented the interim president in a post on X – We trust that this progress and determination will ultimately lead to the lifting of further active sanctions on our country. This will enable rapid economic development, investment, and an effective bilateral cooperation agenda for the benefit of our peoples.”
