2 Aprile 2026

Tokyo, April 2 (Jiji Press)–The Japanese government hopes for progress in U.S.-Iran talks, Chief Cabinet Secretary Minoru Kihara said on Thursday. “A solution through dialogue is crucial. We hope that the talks with Iran that Trump has mentioned in recent days will go in a good direction,” Kihara said at a press conference, referring to U.S. President Donald Trump. The Japanese government will “continue strenuous diplomatic efforts to help calm the situation as early as possible,” he said. Asked about Trump’s failure in his speech on Wednesday to present a concrete path to ending the conflict in Iran, Kihara said, “We will refrain from commenting on every detail of his speech.” Kihara also said the government is considering a response to Britain’s call for a meeting of a coalition of countries on reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
