(Adnkronos) – Italy’s foreign minister Antonio Tajani has underlined his country’s continuing commitment to a “just peace” between Ukraine and its invader Russia and and to the former Soviet Republic’s freedom, independence and European Union entry.
“I confirmed to President @ZelenskyyUa the Italian government’s committed support for the freedom and independence of Ukraine,” Tajani wrote on X after talks in Kiev with Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday.
“The goal must be a just peace, also to prevent further massacres of innocent civilians as occurred in Bucha exactly four years ago,” Tajani continued.
Tajani, other EU foreign ministers and the bloc’s foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas visited the Kiev suburb of Bucha Tuesday on the fourth anniversary of the mass killings of at leat 1,400 civilians and prisoners of war by Russian forces in the wake of Moscow’s full-scale military invasion of Ukraine that began in February 2022.
“Italy supports Ukraine’s accession to the EU. To this end, we will strengthen the path of cooperation, including in the fight against corruption, thanks above all to the contribution and excellence of our tax police,” Tajani underlined.
