(Adnkronos) – Economic relations between Italy and Ukraine remain strong and Italian firms’ interest in the Ukrainian market continues to grow, despite the impact of the four-year-old war with Russia, the foreign ministry stated after foreign minister Antonio Tajani met Italian business representatives at the embassy in Kiev on Tuesday.
Bilateral trade hit 4.5 billion euros in value last year in 2025, mainly in the machinery, pharmaceutical and agri-food sectors, with various events organised by the embassy and Italy’s trade agency (ITA) in Kiev aimed at enticing investment in Ukraine by Italian companies, the statement said.
“Interest from the Italian business community in the Ukrainian market continues to grow despite ongoing challenges,” said the statement.
A series of webinars launched in November have involved over 500 Italian companies, the statement noted.
“The meeting gave an opportunity to reaffirm the Italian government’s closeness to and support for Italian businesses, which have demonstrated remarkable resilience and a strong sense of responsibility by remaining in Ukraine, despite the devastating effects of the conflict, including a significant reduction in production capacity and a sharp increase in energy costs,” said the statement.
At the meeting, Tajani underlined Italy’s commitment to supporting Ukraine’s reconstruction, especially the energy sector, building on work begun with the organisation of a conference in Rome last July.
Putting in place risk mitigation tools, including access to financial guarantees, support for participation in international programmes and tenders, and “a strengthened institutional presence on the ground” are further priorities, the statement noted.
