(Adnkronos) – Italy has congratulated Iraq’s national soccer team after it qualified for the 2026 FIFA Word Cup for the first time in almost 40 years with a 2-1 victory over Bolivia on Tuesday – amid the backdrop of war in the Middle East.
“Congratulations to the Iraq national football team on qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup,” Italy’s embassy wrote Wednesday on X.
“A milestone awaited for decades, rewarding commitment, determination, and team spirit, and shared with great enthusiasm by millions of Iraqi fans,” the post added.
