(Adnkronos) – A ceasefire in the month-long United States-Israel war against Iran will be achieved “hopefully in a matter of weeks” and before a truce in Russia’s more-than-four-year-old invasion of Ukraine, Italy’s foreign minister Antonio Tajani said on Monday.
“In my opinion, a ceasefire in the Middle East will certainly be reached sooner than one in Ukraine…hopefully in a matter of a few weeks,” Tajani told the Italian Cuisine Forum via video link.
Tajani said he agreed with US secretary of state Marco Rubio’s forecast on Friday that the the Mideast war would last “another two-four weeks”.
The conflict will not be “prolonged,” Rubio told reporters after a G7 foreign ministers’ summit in Paris.
“Let’s hope that is the case,” said Tajani.
“Our aim is always to reach a ceasefire as soon as possible, although the decisions involved are beyond our control,” Tajani concluded.
