(Adnkronos) – At least 30 civilians have died in a series of attacks targeting villages in western Niger, near the border with Nigeria. The governor of the Tahoua region, where the attacks took place, announced this on state radio. “Thirty martyrs have fallen and at least 500 head of cattle have been stolen” by the assailants, who “retreated to a neighboring country, where their operational base is located,” said Colonel Souleymane Amadou Moussa. The identity of the perpetrators of the attacks was not specified. The Tahoua region, bordering Nigeria, is a theater of jihadist attacks and hosts armed gangs operating between the two countries.
