Tokyo, March 26 (Jiji Press)–The Bank of Japan on Thursday began releasing a consumer price index that excludes the impact of policy measures, including free education and energy subsidies, in an effort to better gauge underlying inflation. The central bank releases the new index at 2 p.m. two business days after publishing the consumer price index. In February, the core CPI, excluding fresh food prices, rose 1.6 pct from a year earlier. The increase fell below the BOJ’s target of 2 pct for the first time in nearly four years. Excluding the impact of policy measures, the index rose 2.2 pct. END [Copyright The Jiji Press, Ltd.]
