Tokyo, March 24 (Jiji Press)–Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and her Malaysian counterpart, Anwar Ibrahim, agreed Tuesday to cooperate to ease tensions in the Middle East. During their 15-minute phone conversation, Takaichi emphasized the need to work with the international community to ensure safe navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran has effectively closed. Malaysia, a predominantly Muslim nation with deep ties to Middle Eastern countries, has denounced U.S.-Israeli attacks on Iran. Takaichi also held phone talks with Marshall Islands President Hilda Heine, who, according to the Foreign Ministry, expressed gratitude for Japan’s leadership. END [Copyright The Jiji Press, Ltd.]
