(Adnkronos) – The first boat of the Flottila Nuestra America has arrived in Cuba, having sailed from Mexico with humanitarian aid for the island’s population, brought to its knees by the energy blockade imposed by Donald Trump. The old fishing boat ‘Maguro’, now renamed Granma 2.0, docked in Havana with a cargo of 30 tons of aid, including 70 solar panels destined for health centers, along with basic foodstuffs, medicines, and sanitary products.

Activists from 19 countries are participating in the Flotilla, including four Italians: Martina Steinwurzel, Umberto Cerutti, and Paolo Tangari from Aicec, members of the European Convoy, along with a representative of the Camalli of Genoa. Internacional Progresista, one of the associations organizing the mission, has accused the Trump administration of “suffocating the island, cutting off fuel supplies, flights, and essential goods for survival.”

“The consequences are lethal for newborns as well as for their parents, for the elderly and the sick,” adds the statement, reiterating that the Flotilla intends to show “solidarity with the Cuban people.” Two more boats of the Flotilla, which sailed from Mexico, are expected to arrive in the coming days, while part of the mission, which includes more than 50 associations and collectives, 13 political and trade union movements, and 4 MEPs, has already arrived in Cuba by plane in recent days and has already contributed to the delivery of over 5 tons of medicines and sanitary materials,” announced the association Let Cuba Breathe.
