(Adnkronos) – Italy wants to strengthen economic collaboration with Venezuela, involving both countries’ businesses “in all priority sectors” and and to keep up dialogue with the government, foreign minister Antonio Tajani wrote Friday on X after talks with counterpart Gil Pinto.
“I spoke with with Venezuela’s foreign minister Gil Pinto @yvangil, to whom I reiterated #Italy’s support for the reform process launched under the new interim leadership of President (Delcy) Rodriguez,” read the post.
“We want to keep up dialogue with the Venezuelan authorities in the spirit of the historical ties that unite us through the strong Italian presence in that country,” the post continued.
“I emphasized the centrality of human rights, starting with the continuation of the releases of Italian political prisoners,” the post added.
“We want to strengthen economic cooperation between our countries, working with our businesses on a concrete plan in all priority sectors,” the post concluded.
Venezuela’s socialist president Nicolas Maduro and his wife are currently jail in New York awaiting trial on drug trafficking charges after they were captured by US special forces in Caracas in a nighttime raid on 3 January after months of pressure from US president Donald Trump’s administration to stand down.
