(Adnkronos) – The Swiss Federal Council has decided to no longer authorize the export of war material to the United States due to the country’s participation in the conflict with Iran. No new requests have been approved since the escalation of the conflict on February 28.
In a note, the government specifies that it examined today the issue of exporting goods to countries involved in the war, namely the United States, Israel, and Iran. The discussion comes a week after the one on the applicability of the principle of neutrality and decisions regarding requests for overflight of Switzerland by the USA.
In the statement, the Federal Council is explicit: “Currently, it is not possible to authorize exports of war material to the United States, by virtue of their involvement in an international armed conflict” according to the War Material Act.
Regarding Israel, definitive authorizations for the export of war material have not been granted for years. The same applies to Iran, the government specifies. As for already approved authorizations, the Federal Council clarifies that these “do not have military relevance” and can therefore continue to be used.
