Mafia, Rai for the Day of Remembrance and Commitment

20 Marzo 2026

(Adnkronos) – “Memory is not a solitary act; it is a shared commitment that unites stories, names, and broken lives.” It is by virtue of this shared commitment that, on the occasion of the XXXI National Day of Remembrance and Commitment in memory of the innocent victims of mafias, Rai promotes a dedicated schedule on TV, radio, and online.

The Public Service’s commitment is also highlighted by a commercial, already airing since March 14 on all networks.

The Day, which falls annually on March 21, the first day of spring, will this year be hosted in Turin, with an event promoted by LIBERA – Associations, names, and numbers against mafias.

The national procession, the reading of names, and the speech by Don Luigi Ciotti will be followed live by a Tg3 Special scheduled for 11:00 AM. Meanwhile, a Special dedicated to the Day will begin at 10:00 AM on RaiNews24, with guests and live connections from Turin, with extensive news coverage also guaranteed by all other news outlets, in the Tg, Gr, and on RaiNews.it.

Many in-depth segments dedicated to the memory of innocent mafia victims will then be hosted in TV programs, starting with “Unomattina in famiglia” which will discuss the topic at 8:35 AM.

Rai Cultura commemorates the Day on Rai Storia as early as 00:10 AM – with subsequent reruns – on “Il giorno e la Storia,” while at 10:30 AM and 7:30 PM, its milestones from 1996 to 2017 are retraced through various news reports.

At 4:30 PM, “L’abbraccio” commemorates the first assassination of a magistrate carried out by Cosa Nostra, that of Antonino Saetta, president of the first section of the Palermo Court of Assizes of Appeal, killed on September 25, 1988, along with his son Stefano on the road from Agrigento to Caltanissetta. Then, at 6:30 PM, “Diario Civile – Pizzolungo: memorie di una strage” reconstructs the 1985 attack on judge Carlo Palermo, who escaped the car bomb that killed Barbara Asta and her six-year-year-old children Giuseppe and Salvatore. At 8:30 PM on “Passato e Presente,” a portrait of Don Giuseppe Puglisi, killed in Palermo in 1993 for his anti-mafia commitment. The same fate as Rosario Livatino, to whom Alessandro Robilant’s film “Il giudice ragazzino” is dedicated in prime time. Finally, the Rai Scuola portal offers a special that traces the long and painful list of mafia deaths, from the 1960s to the deaths of Falcone and Borsellino.

A vivid and collective memory that also involves Rai’s digital platforms. In particular, RaiPlay will feature three vertical offerings for films, Italian series, and documentaries: from Marco Tullio Giordana’s “I cento passi” to Marco Risi’s “Fortàpasc”; from Daniele Vicari’s “Prima che la notte” to Luca Ribuoli’s “La mafia uccide solo d’estate.” Among the available documentaries are “I ragazzi delle scorte,” “Solo per amore – Il coraggio di Don Peppe Diana,” and “Maxi –Il grande processo alla mafia.”

To discuss the importance of remembrance with younger audiences, “RaiPlay Learning” has decided to dedicate a collection titled “Victims of Mafia” to the women and men who bravely fought against mafias.

The collection is divided into two parts: the first is dedicated to the two symbolic victims of the fight against the mafia, Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino, while the second will commemorate many other illustrious victims, including intellectuals, army representatives, and law enforcement.

On the occasion of the March 21st Day, RaiPlay Sound also offers a selection of original documentaries and podcasts dedicated to the stories of innocent mafia victims, such as Piersanti Mattarella, Peppino Impastato, Pippo Fava, Giancarlo Siani.

And starting precisely on March 21st, “13.30 – If the mafia kills without shooting,” a Rai Radio1 podcast, will be available, telling the story of Biagio Siciliano and Giuditta Milella, who died in 1985 in an accident involving a police escort car for judges Guarnotta and Borsellino.

On Rai Radio2, several programs will address the theme: “I Lunatici” (at 11:00 PM), “Good Morning Radio2 Weekend” (at 6:00 AM); “Radio2 Safari” (at 10:30 AM); “Maschio Selvaggio” (at 9:00 PM).

On Rai Radio3, it will be discussed on “Radio 3 Suite” (at 7:30 PM), “Hollywood Party” (at 7:00 PM), “Fahrenheit” (at 3:00 PM), and “Tutta la città ne parla” (already aired on March 20 at 10:00 AM).

Finally, within Rai Isoradio’s schedule, editorial insights dedicated to the Day are planned, in addition to having already discussed it in the Sabina Style program, which aired on March 19.
