(Adnkronos) – The White House believes it can tolerate an increase in oil prices for weeks longer before it becomes a serious political problem. According to sources close to the administration cited by Politico, President Donald Trump’s team considers a possible rise in energy prices manageable for three or four weeks without the need to change its military strategy in the conflict with Iran.
Within the administration, the idea prevails that current peaks are temporary. Oil fell yesterday to around $80 a barrel, after touching about $120 over the weekend, reinforcing the belief that market fluctuations are momentary and do not require immediate changes in US policy. A former administration official explained that before reviewing the approach, “several weeks of consistent data” on price trends will be needed: “These small temporary fluctuations are not what they will base policy on.” According to sources, the increase in prices has not been considered a reason to change military strategy, even though the speed of the surge recorded on Sunday evening surprised the White House.
