The Washington Post reports this, adding that the figure underscores growing alarm on Capitol Hill about the speed with which US forces have depleted scarce stocks of the United States’ most advanced weaponry. The estimate raises new questions about whether the Trump administration has largely ignored lawmakers’ concerns that the Iran operation is rapidly eroding the readiness of the US military.
The Trump administration is also expected to send a supplementary defense budget request to Congress as early as this week – potentially totaling tens of billions of dollars – to help sustain its campaign, officials said. This request is also expected to face opposition from many Democrats, whose attempts to prevent the administration from further military actions in Iran have failed.
