Diplomatic dialogue channels to stay open between Italy and Iran – Tajani

6 Marzo 2026

(Adnkronos) – Rome has diplomatic relations with Tehran and believes it is crucial to maintain dialogue in order to end “as quickly as possible” the escalating conflict between the United States, Israel and Iran which began last Saturday with US-Israeli strikes on Iranian military sites, according to Italy’s foreign minister, Antonio Tajani.

“There is absolutely no severing of diplomatic ties because at this moment we believe we must continue to talk. Channels of dialogue must always remain open and our goal is end the hostilities as quickly as possible,” Tajani told reporters on Friday after an online meeting with ambassadors in the Gulf.

Tajani’s comments came a day after Italy closed its embassy in Tehran and temporarily transferred it to Azerbaijan’s capital, Baku, together with all Italian nationals who chose to leave Iran.
