Iran, White House looking for ‘ideas’ to counter rising gasoline prices

5 Marzo 2026

(Adnkronos) – Faced with rising oil and gas prices following Donald Trump’s attack on Iran, Susie Wiles, White House chief of staff, is asking advisers to bring ideas to the Oval Office to lower gasoline prices. This is what Politico writes, citing two energy industry sources who explain that the White House “is looking everywhere for ideas to improve fuel prices, particularly gasoline.”

Newspaper sources describe a frantic and agitated search, with real “scoldings” for Energy Secretary Chris Wright and other energy policy advisers, including a council led by Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, responsible for natural resource management, who are urged to bring “some good news” about falling prices.

“They are racing for an announcement or a message that can counter the narrative of rising prices,” the sources conclude, referring to the fact that crude oil prices have surged by over $10 a barrel, bringing gasoline prices to one of the highest levels since the start of Trump’s second presidency. The rise in gasoline prices is causing concern and agitation in the White House and among Republicans ahead of the midterm elections in November.
